Page 7 - Gainesville Visitors Guide

Located just 60 miles north of Dallas,
Gainesville became a wealthy community with
a great deal of money having come from cattle,
cotton and the discovery of oil. Even to this day
most of these homes have been restored to their
original glory. The homes that are on the
historic tour were originally constructed by
cotton buyers, merchants, bankers, oilmen,
prominent landowners and attorneys beginning
in the 1880s.
