HOMEGROWN HERO WALKING TRAIL:
Enter on Main Street between Lindsay and Denison
streets or you can access the trail at midway points at
Garnett and Taylor. The trail is accessible to the
disabled at Howeth and Moss streets. The paved trail
winds through wooded glens and creeks, with
benches and play areas dotting the way. The most
unique feature of the trail is the trees planted in
honor of our homegrown heroes and the Medal of
Honor recipients.
LAKES:
There are five main public lakes, known for fishing,
boating and all sorts of water recreation, in our
immediate area. Right in our own backyard, north-
west of Gainesville is Moss Lake, then to our west is
Muenster Lake (fishing only), Lake Ray Roberts,
which lies 30 miles to our south, Lake Texoma, the
largest and probably one of the best known is only
40
miles east and to our north is Lake Murray, in
Oklahoma, just 45 minutes away.
